Troubleshooting

DepthTick troubleshooting.

Start with the symptom that sounds familiar. Most issues are related to the wallpaper, font, monitor position, or depth settings.

Common questions

01Depth Effect does not look right

Start with Layered Mode, which is the default for most wallpapers. Try Object Mode for a distinct foreground subject; use the separate 2D Art toggle if an illustrated subject looks hollow or incorrect. Adjust Widget depth to fine-tune the edge, then use Refresh Depth Effect if the overlap is still incorrect.

02The clock is hidden too much

Lower Widget depth to bring the clock forward, or lower Hidden area limit so depth is bypassed sooner when too much would be hidden. At 0, Hidden area limit prevents the depth cutout from being applied, even if the Depth Effect toggle is on. If the foreground covers most of the clock, move it or use Center from the tray menu.

03The depth effect barely appears

Increase Widget Depth, position the clock closer to a foreground object, or try wallpaper with stronger separation.

04Status says no depth for this wallpaper

DepthTick skips solid colors, smooth gradients and some images with insufficient depth evidence. A photograph can still be difficult to interpret if it is very dark, low-contrast or has no clear separation. Try a wallpaper with distinct foreground details. The clock still works without depth.

05I enabled click-through and cannot move it

Right-click the tray icon and turn Click Through off, or click the icon to open Settings → Clock and switch it off there. Opening Settings alone does not disable Click Through.

06A yellow border appears around the screen

This is the Windows protected-capture indicator. DepthTick still works. Open Settings → Clock → Hide Border to request permission to hide it.

07A recently installed font is not available

DepthTick refreshes its font list when Windows reports a font change. Let installation finish, reopen the font picker, and look for the font's family name rather than its file name. Re-select the font if necessary; restart DepthTick only if Windows has not made it available.

08Resource usage increases after changing wallpaper

Depth generation temporarily uses CPU or GPU. Usage should fall once the mask is ready and cached. How long that takes depends on your machine.

09The widget is off-screen after changing monitors

Right-click the tray icon and choose Center, or open Settings → Clock and choose Center Both. DepthTick also attempts to keep the clock inside a connected display when its layout changes.

10Depth pauses with a one-minute slideshow

This is intentional. Depth is paused while an active Windows slideshow changes every minute or faster. Choose a slower interval or a picture background. Generation resumes when the slideshow no longer meets that condition.

11The wallpaper changed but the old cutout is still visible

Check that Auto-generate on wallpaper change is enabled under Depth. Windows may take a moment to finish changing a Picture, Slideshow or Spotlight background; depth generation then takes additional time. If the result remains out of date after generation finishes, use Refresh Depth Effect.

12The lens changes while I drag the clock

On slower hardware, DepthTick temporarily uses a simpler transparent preview without the depth cutout while dragging. Release the mouse to restore the full lens and depth effect.
